The truth is, I want to enjoy the process, I want to learn and grow, and I want to share that with all of you, so that we can hopefully learn and grow together. So hatred of writing be damned! I’m going to do my best to suck it up and hopefully make this a weekly journey.
I didn’t start out as an Actress, I don’t even have a degree in acting. It was however, something I had always wanted to be and dreamed about for years. Growing up, while I was always encouraged to be creative, the idea of “A career in Acting,” always threw my parents and other authority figures into fits. “Acting isn’t practical.” “You’ll never make any money.” “You’re smart, you should be a doctor or a lawyer.” And on and on and on… I’m sure some of you heard those very same things. So contrary to who I was, I studied Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with the goal of becoming a Research Scientist. I really enjoyed it actually and was quite good at it; research was at least somewhat creative and in the Academic sector, it afforded more flexibility than the average job. Despite that, it still just never quite felt right, something was missing, maybe a lot of things. I won’t go into great detail, but when some major life changes hit, I was no longer able or willing to ignore my dreams. I decided that it was time to make them a reality. And I’ve been working towards that ever since. It was the best decision I ever made! Acting makes me happy, it makes my heart soar! I’m not happy every moment of every day, sometimes I hate memorizing or doing that Character Substance feels like such a chore, but I am happy every day. I made the right choice!
This blog isn’t going to be about the choice though. I wanted to share just a bit of background information so you know where I’m coming from. This blog is going to be about the experiences I’ve had since making that choice, what I’ve learned, and continue to learn, situations that arise with decisions to be made, and just how the hell you go about being an actress at all. I want to chronicle it all so that I can look back on it one day and hopefully say, “WOW – look at that life, it’s so awesome – I made that!!!” And so I can hopefully help you as you embark upon or continue your own journey.
